1874 Northwich are thrilled to present your new club captain, Mark Jones, and vice-captain, Matt Woolley.
Matt and Mark are no stranger to the captain’s armband, both having worn it on countless occasions. However, when the duo took over as joint player-managers in October 2023, they entrusted the armband to Matty Fenton.
Following the departure of Matty Fenton to Leek Town last month, the stalwarts have been appointed to take over the captaincy for the new season.
Mark Jones commented on being appointed as club captain:
“Being asked to be captain is great and something I am proud of.”
“I think being captain doesn’t change anything for me as I’d like to think I am just the same when not captain, always trying to lead by example and trying to help the younger lads where needed.”
“I’ve played with Woolley for a long time now and he’s always been my captain and still is. When we took over as player-mangers, we decided to pass captaincy to Matty Fenton and I think it was the correct thing to do as you can see, he stayed captain last year and has got a great move to Leek Town.”
“Woolley is a great person, teammate and friend, but an even better player. So having him next to me and around all our teammates is massive for us, he’s a true professional and a born winner.”
Chris Herbert added:
“It’s a no brainer to name Mark Jones as club captain. His experience and leadership skills are there for everyone to see.”
“He leads by example, and is a model pro, the younger lads in the team won’t go far wrong by watching the way he conducts himself in training and games.”
“Woolley, like Jonah, is a leader and is our vice-captain.”
“He was very unlucky with injuries last season. We think if he can get a full pre-season under his belt he will be raring to go.”
“We missed him in games last season and hopefully he can give us that extra push now he is back fit.”
