March Player of the Month | 1874 Northwich F.C.

March Player of the Month

It is time to vote for your 1874 player of the month for March.

After playing just four matches in January and February combined, 1874 played a total of nine matches in March so there is alot to consider before casting your vote.

It started at Widnes with a straightforward victory over Daisy Hill, then the fantastic team effort to win at Atherton Collieries before a hard fought win over Northwich Flixton Villa thanks to a late goal from man of the match Danny Thomas.

The ‘new boys’ have played their part with Dave Short getting his first goal in the 2-1 cup win over higher league opposition Abbey Hey, Sakeel Abdullah scoring in the victories at Darwen and Hanley and Chris Lunn coming off the bench to score the winner at Holker.  Mike Aston has also come in to the team and performed consistently in the middle and at full back.

The home game against Atherton Collieries was a struggle but the ever reliable Mike Brandon saved the game with one of his four goals in March.  Finally there was the defeat in a very tough cup game at Maine Road at the end of a very busy month.

So after a record of P9 W7 D 1 L1 there are a lot of candidates for the March player of the month.

Only three goals were conceded in seven league games so Matt Conkie and the defence have performed well again.  Stuart Wellstead converted three penalties as well as scoring from open play against Daisy Hill and Matty Ward has put in some classy performances particularly at Holker. There were also some battling performances in midfield from Lee Jones and Ryan Stewart in the tough games against Hanley and Atherton Collieries.

Please make the effort to vote as the players appreciate the award.  Voting slips will be available at the matches against Eccleshall and Atherton LR, or you can vote by telephone on 07975 679624 or by e-mail at  Votes must be received by 1.00pm on Tuesday 8th April 2014 to be included.
