1874 Northwich manager Chris Herbert has praised his squad’s recent performances as the club continues an impressive unbeaten run heading into the busy Christmas period.
The Greens have shown strong consistency in recent weeks, and Herbert believes the team is starting to reach the standards required to compete at the top end of the table.
“The performances are getting to the levels we want them at,” he said. “We are looking strong all over the pitch and when we have had injuries, the lads that have come in have really stepped up to the task. We just need to keep improving game by game.”
Attention now turns to the upcoming clash with Stourport, a side Herbert expects to arrive full of confidence after an emphatic victory last weekend.
“Stourport will be coming full of confidence,” he explained. “They beat Tividale 4–1 at the weekend and were good value for it as well. We can’t take our foot off the gas. We need to keep putting pressure on the teams above us.”
One player who has made an immediate impact since arriving is Mitchell, whose presence has allowed Jonah to operate further forward in midfield.
“Mitch is your typical old-school centre-half,” said Herbert. “No nonsense and a real leader. He has captained sides to league titles at this level and hopefully his experience will help us in our push for promotion.”
Squad versatility has also played a key role in recent weeks, highlighted by Rob Hopley turning back the years with a spell up front.
“Rob has been one of the best strikers in non-league football and he knows the role inside out,” Herbert added. “As long as we have pace around him it works really well. We are looking to get him back into defence, and hopefully we will have two new strikers coming in on loan ready for the Christmas period.”
With momentum building and competition for places increasing, Herbert is confident his side is well placed to continue their strong run through a demanding festive schedule.
