Recap
1874 NORTHWICH 1-0 RAMSBOTTOM UNITED
Match report, by Jack Owen
1874 club captain Matt Woolley scored a dramatic late winner from the bench as ’74 secured their second home win of the season.
Both teams had a week off from action last week and it told in the first half, which was a scrappy affair with few clearcut chances for either side. 1874 midfielder Jake Parker had the best chance of the half when his effort from a freekick just over 20-yards out struck the cross bar with a heavy clang on the half hour mark and bounced out for a goal kick.
The second half continued in a similar vein to that of the first, with fans of both sides urging their team on but perhaps beginning to resign themselves to a point that would have been hard to argue agaisnt either team having.
Just when it looked like everyone’s assumption would be proven correct and however, the winner for Northwich came on the 88th minute. Lucas Weir’s corner arrived at the perfect height to find Matt Woolley running onto it, who guided a finish in to the bottom left corner to send the home fans in to jubilant celebrations.
A late scare came as Domaine Rouse glanced a header wide of the post with ’74 left to watch with the goal at his mercy, but the Greens were able to hold on for a valuable three points at home.
Ramsbottom – Stewart, Barlow, Collinge, Hoy, Hall, Cooper, Hartley (Twist), Kennedy, Murphy (Rodriguez), Rouse, Thompson.
