Recap

Michael Brandon put the gloss on a complete performance from 1874 when he curled home a brilliant freekick with the last kick of the game. A result which ended 1874’s four match wait for a win.

Northwich made two changes from Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Maine Road, Stuart Tulloch replaced Mike Brandon upfront and Elliot Ledwards returned to the starting 11 on the left wing in place of the injured Dan Shannon.

1874 started the game with a high tempo attempting to take the game to the visitors, McNichol delivered a cross which evaded the head of Tulloch but caught Ryan Jackson unaware at the back post, who couldn’t react in time to head the ball on goal.

As 1874 began to take full control of the game, Rudheath committed a number of fouls around their box, one of these lead to the best chance for 1874 early on, as Jackson delivered and found Ledwards rushing in at the back post, his header was goal bound until a strong right hand from Scott Lodge clawed the ball to safety.

A quick corner caught Rudheath cold and Jackson once again delivered a great ball, this time to find Tulloch stooping low to head in past the stranded Lodge and put 1874 one goal ahead.

A concern for all 1874 fans as Matty Ward had to be withdrawn on the 23rd minute due to injury, he was replaced with Michael Brandon.

1874 extended their lead in the 38th minute, Mike Brandon headed the ball on to the edge of the 18 yard box where Jackson was waiting, he volleyed the ball with his left foot in to the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

Rudheath had a chance to possibly get a goal back late on in the first half but Craig Millington couldn’t avoid shooting straight at Matt Conkie in the 1874 goal.

It was Rudheath who had the first chance in the second half, as Chris Latham timed his run perfectly to get around Stadnicki, his attempted lob was over hit and didn’t trouble Conkie.

Another glorious chance for Rudheath presented its self, as Craig Millington beat the 1874 offside trap he only had Conkie to beat, yet his finished lacked the cutting edge and was put wide.

1874 put the game to bed on the 58 minute mark, as Ryan Jackson was on the end of a great move to blast home from 10 yards after some neat football from Ledwards and Brandon.

1874 then began to play with more freedom which the third goal allowed them too, Stuart Tulloch turned the last defender to leave him self one on one with Lodge, he made no mistake with passing the ball around the Rudheath keeper to make it 4-0.

History was made in the 78th minute, as Stuart Tulloch made way for 1874 Northwich U21 Forward Elliot Watkins, Elliot is the first ever player from the U21 side to make a competitive appearance for the first team.

Michael Brandon, as he has done for the last 3 seasons had the final say on the game, he lined up a freekick from 20 yards out and picked his spot, his effort was up and over the wall and past Lodge before he could react, a great end to a much needed win for 1874.
