Recap
On a rain-soaked evening at the Stockport Sports Village, 1874 were defeated in the first round of the Cheshire Senior Cup to a spirited Town, their team containing former greens Sam Hare and Sam Hind.
1874 took an early lead thanks to a nice move and cross from Jamal Crawford, which was turned in over the keeper’s head by Josh Quarless.
With half an hour on the clock, the reds equalised through their Captain, after Sam Hare sent a cross to the back post for a tap in. Within another couple of minutes, Stockport found themselves leading thanks to a fantastic shot from distance, once again their Captain taking the plaudits. With half time looming, Sam Hind made it three with a tap in at the back post. Just as the Referee was about to blow for half time, Mackenzie O’Neill netted only to be judged offside.
With the second half only three minutes old, Matty Fenton met a corner well and scored with a great header to reduce the arrears. Stockport increased their lead again around ten minutes later thanks to old boy Sam Hare, converting a penalty after a handball incident in our area.
Josh Quarless doubled his goal tally on the evening, netting in the 78th minute. However, 1874 couldn’t find that equaliser and Stockport Town saw the game out.
