HIND SETS 74 ON ROAD TO VICTORY
BY GARRY CLARKE

1874 NORTHWICH 2-1 CHARNOCK RICHARD

HSL PREMIER 28TH APRIL 2018

Playing their first Saturday game at St Luke’s Barton Stadium since January, 1874 Northwich celebrated with a 2-1 win over a Charnock Richard team which beat them 4-2 seventeen days ago in Lancashire.

1874 almost got off to a flying start going close to scoring twice in the opening five minutes.

Kazim Waite-Jackson set Sam Hind free down the left flank, his cross was slightly behind Ryan Jackson, who managed to swivel to get his shot away but directed his strike wide of the target. Moments later Paul Connor crossed from the opposite wing, the ball eventually arrived at the far post where Hind lifted the ball over Charnock keeper Adam Halton’s head only for Jordyn Fitton to clear off the line.

1874 dominated the first half with Hind seeing a shot deflected for a corner from which he flicked the ball inches wide of the target, and Ryan Jackson fired a shot cross the face of goal after an inch perfect diagonal cross field pass from Jack Pritchard found him in acres of space.

Two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the first half 1874 finally made the break though, the ball was pulled back into the penalty area and Hind lurking at the far post smashed it high into the roof of the net to give the home side a deserved half time lead.

Sitting a place above 1874 in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division table, Charnock Richard started the second half strongly with both Joe Noblet and Carl Grimshaw, who and their only attempt on goal in the first half firing shots over the 1874 bar in the opening half of the second stanza.

1874 doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute. Goalkeeper Greg Hall launched a long clearance deep into Charnock territory, Kyle Riley held off a defenders challenge to back heel the ball to Scott McGowan who slotted home his 39th goal of the season.

A few minutes later Noblet fired a shot into the side netting before Grimshaw scored in the 85th minute to halve his side’s deficit.

As the game entered stoppage time, Hall comfortable caught a Charnock corner, launching another clearance towards the Charnock area, this time enough defenders scramble back to deny McGowan and Jackson.
