BACUP & ROSSENDALE BOROUGH 0-4 1874 NORTHWICH NWCFL PREMIER 23RD AUG 2014

Having suffered their first league defeat of 2014 in their previous game, 1874 Northwich returned to winning ways comfortably beating Bacup & Rossendale Borough 4-0 at the Brian Boys West View Stadium high up in the Pennines.

After Bacup’s Shaun Plumber had hit a tame first minute shot straight at Matt Conkie, 1874 went on the attack. Matt Beadle and Paul Connor combined to set up Ryan Mitchell whose header was saved by Bacup goalkeeper Callum Jakoleves, who also saved a Mitchell shot a few minutes later.

Bacup’s Matt Bryan and Plummer had shots which failed to hit the target before Connor opened the scoring for 1874 in the 20th minute. Matty Ward swung in an inch perfect cross from the left wing which was met at the far post by a diving Connor who planted his header past Jakoleves.

Connor went close to adding a second hitting the post before 1874 had a penalty appeal turned down when Beadle shrugged off a tug on his shirt from a Bacup defender before going down under a challenge from Jakoleves. The referee harshly adjudged Beadle to have dived over the keeper and showed him a yellow card. In the closing minutes of the first half Beadle fired in two shots, one which went just wide and one which was well saved.

The second half started with Bacup’s Nathan Bond shooting over the 1874 bar and Lee Oldham being prevented from shooting by a last ditch tackle from Craig Farnworth. The game was over as a contest when Beadle chased a long ball down the centre of the pitch in the 59th minute, holding off a challenge from a Bacup defender to take the ball past the advancing Jakoleves and shooting into an empty net.

Four minutes later Ward twisted and turned the Bacup defence inside out before his goal bound shot was deflected wide. Bacup failed to clear the resulting corner, the ball falling to Mitchell who from ten yards out unleashed an angled thunderbolt which flew in to the roof of the net. Sakeel Abdullah took advantage of some poor defending in the 78th minute to score 1874’s fourth goal shooting past Jakoleves, who in the closing minutes saved well to deny Ward.
