Recap

1874 return to top spot in superb style after a stunning 9-0 away win versus Litherland REMCYA. The greens overtook second place Bootle extending their lead at the top to two points thanks to three goals from Jake Parker, three from Scott McGowan and one a piece from Mike Koral, Jack Tinning and Taylor Kennerley.

1874 were up against a struggling REMCYA side that had been leaking goals all season and Saturday was no different when the faced a clinical 1874. The league leaders playing in their blue away strip took an early lead as right back Mike Koral was given too much room in the penalty area and his finish found the bottom corner.

Shortly after 1874 had doubled their advantage, a through ball from Matty Russell found Scott McGowan who slid his effort into the bottom corner to extend our lead. The remainder of the half saw a dominating spell of possession for 1874 who went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half however saw the Litherland defence cave into the relentless 1874 attack as they managed to add seven goals during the half to create a record-breaking win to see us return to the top of the league.

10 minutes into the second half 74 added a third as a McGowan cross was slammed home by Jake Parker to put the game out of sight. Things went from bad to worse for REMCYA as they were reduced to 10 men as Paul Foy received his second yellow swiping Nathan Okome’s legs from underneath him.

Just after the hour mark Parker added his second and 1874’s fourth as once again McGowan’s ball fell into the path of Jake who fired into the top corner from a tight angle. Moments later 1874 had a fifth with arguably the best goal of the game. A good advantage played by the referee after a horror tackle on Koral, saw him power through into the Litherland half playing in Scott McGowan whose chipped effort lobbed the REMCYA keeper from 20 yards out, giving him a second.

Three minutes later 1874 had their sixth and Jake Parker got his hat-trick. A good piece of play from substitute Harry Cain saw him cut back and Parker drilled it home into the bottom corner adding to his already impressive tally for the season.

Soon after 1874 got their third goal in 10 minutes and this time it sealed the hat-trick for McGowan. A ball from Okome found McGowan who finished to give 74 a seven-nil lead. Seven soon became eight as Taylor Kennerley got himself on the scoresheet after a powerful run from Harry Cain saw him play in Kennerley to give him his first of the game.

With the final minutes of the 90 being played, 1874 got their ninth. An excellent run by left back Jack Tinning saw him slot the ball home to give 1874 all three points and return top of the table in a truly ruthless attacking performance.
