Recap

1874 were left ruing missed chances as they left the XLCR Stadium, having to settle with just a point after putting in arguably their performance of the season.

The game started off at a frantic pace. Ryan Jackson tried to get an early cross in to the Colne box but Alex Coleman got the ball away for the home side, his clearance found Gaughan 40 yards from goal, he turned and tried his luck, his effort was goalbound but Greg Hall reacted well and tipped the ball over to deny the forward.
1874 began to grow in to the game, Ryan Jackson was in fine form and he beat the Colne full back Dom Craig for pace and curled a cross towards Beadle, it was over the forward but nearly found its way in to the far post, only to drop wide to the relief of Aghayere.
The best chance of the game so far came in the 20th minute, as Tyler Edwards combined with Jackson and the latter’s cross found its way to Beadle who couldn’t get his shot away quick enough and he lost possession before he could switch the ball to his favoured right foot.
Only four minutes later, Beadle was causing Colne problems again. Another great piece of wing play by 1874 saw a cross find the forward, this time he struck a powerful volley against the upright which bounced across the line and out for a goalkick.
1874 kept up the pressure on the home side, a corner from Jackson wasn’t cleared fully and Neil Chappell just couldn’t stab the ball in to the corner, narrowly poking it wide.
Greg Hall had be alert to deny Marc Young from a Colne corner shortly after, his header was tipped on to the bar by Hall and cleared away by Ben Woods.
HT – Colne 0-0 1874
The second half began as the first ended, 1874 pushing Colne and on top, and they were nearly rewarded with the goal their performance deserved, as Tyler Edwards raced on to a loose ball and burst through on goal, but pressed by Coleman he could only send his effort narrowly wide of the post.
Only a minute later, the deadlock was broken and it was the home side with the goal against the run of play, Simon Nangle seized on a loose touch and fed the ball to Jason Hart, who broke down the left and placed the ball past the onrushing Greg Hall to give Colne a 1-0 lead.
The next 10 minutes Colne were on top of the game, and without a brilliant tackle from Danny Thomas on the 59th minute it could have been 2-0 as Joel Melia thought he had a chance at goal after being teed up by Hart, but a sliding tackle won the ball just as he was about to shoot.
The game was level again on the 66th minute, Ryan Jackson combined well on the right with Edwards again, he then swung a cross in to the area, which found top scorer Matthew Beadle in wait, his header found its way in to the far left corner of Aghayere’s goal to the delight of the travelling 1874 support.
Ryan Mitchell had a header saved brilliantly down low by Aghayere moments after Beadle levelled.
As the game went on, both teams tired, and with five minutes remaining the cross bar saved 1874. Dom Craig fed the ball to Jason Hart on the right, as Greg Hall tried to race out to clear it he couldn’t get there and began to retreat however Hart already had the ball over his head and it bounced off the crossbar and was headed away by Ryan Mitchell.
