1874 produced one of their finest performances of the season to inflict a rare home defeat for promotion-chasing Leek Town, with Joe Woolley scoring in both halves to lift the ’74 up to 15th place.
Northwich dominated possession in the early exchanges, working the ball around the Leek Town box well causing Oliver Harrison and Scott Wara in the heart of the home defence to deal with a lot of balls into the area.
As the game evened out slightly, neither side had a meaningful chance on goal, until Joe Woolley broke the deadlock, a flowing move saw Sam Hare poke a ball through the Leek defence and Joe danced around the lunging tackle of Harrison to finish well into the bottom left corner.
Leek pulled themselves level early into the second half, against the run of play Tim Grice headed the ball over Aghayere and the ball took a number of deflections into the net.
The lead didn’t last long, Joe Woolley drove into the penalty box from the left and struck an unstoppable effort into the top left corner leaving Leek stopper Daniel Roberts with no chance.
As Leek pressed for a way back into the game, Jamie Reed first went close to extending the lead, he saw a goal-bound effort blocked by Wara.
Mackenzie O’Neill then squared the ball to Cal Gardner whose effort was tipped over at full stretch by Roberts to keep the home side in the contest.
A big chance went the way of the home side in the 4th minute of injury time as Wara rose highest to head wide of the post much to the relief of the sizeable following from Northwich at Harrison Park.
The final whistle sounded and it brought to an end a great performance and a much deserved 3 points.
