Recap

1874 made it back to back wins vs landlords Winsford United this season with a 3-0 away win at the Barton Stadium in difficult conditions.

The game was a even contest for the majority of the first half with most of the game being battled within the midfield. George Riley, making his first start for 1874, was lively and played a great through ball to Ryan Jackson, who’s effort on goal was well defended by former 1874 defender Adam Bayley.

With the game approaching half time and still goal less, Ryan Jackson pinched the ball off the Winsford winger but after being swarmed by Blue shirts, he lost the ball but luckily it fell to Mike Brandon who rifled the ball home from close range to give 1874 the lead going in to the break.

HALF TIME: Winsford 0-1 1874.

The contest resumed as both sides looked to push on and take the game to each other, both sides had early chances, Ryan Jackson’s cross just evading Mike Brandon and Ben Brooks when 1874 countered and at the opposite end, a slip in the 1874 back line wasn’t fully capitalised on by Winsford and the ball was cleared.

Matt Ward replaced Neil Chappell for 1874 and almost instantly had an impact – his long run up the field saw him beat three Winsford players until his effort was blocked well by Ben Seol.

The game was still in the balance going into the last exchanges, and Matty Ward thought he had the chance to seal it after robbing the Winsford defender of the ball on the edge of his area, he was one-v-one with the Blues keeper, but this time the keeper came out on top making a great save to deny the midfielder.

1874 effectively secured all 3 points in the 90th minute, as Jack Woolley received the ball from a throw in, he held it up well and laid the ball into the path of the onrushing Ryan Jackson who calmly slotted the ball home at the near post to make it 2-0 and relieve all tension.

Stuart Wellstead added gloss to the score line in the 94th minute, as he raced on to a Ryan Mitchell clearance as Winsford threw everything at 1874. Wellstead outpaced the defender and slotted home calmly to make it 3-0 and send the ‘travelling’ 1874 fans home happy.
