Recap

Bailey double sinks New Mills

In the first ever meeting between the two sides, a goal each side of the break gave 1874 a well earned victory over New Mills. A great way to respond to Saturday’s result.

On a warm summers evening, it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides, the 1874 defence thought they have cleared the danger from a New Mills corner, however, the ball only found its way to Elliot Watson who unleashed a 25 yard screamer past a helpless Greg Hall to give the away side the lead

The 74 rallied, now looking to get back in to the game, shortly after, Ryan Mitchell saw his headed effort rise wide of the crossbar and Stuart Wellstead couldn’t turn home Eddie Moran’s freekick

The Greens drew level on the half hour mark, Sam Hind broke away from his marker on the wing, using his pace to cut in from the left, he crossed looking for Tom Bailey, fortunately, the defender could only knock the ball in to the path of the forward who turned the ball home from 6 yards

The second half began with 1874 pushing New Mills back looking for a another goal, and they got exactly that with nearly an hour on the clock, Eddie Moran curled in a freekick from the wing, Sam Hind headed the ball in to the New Mills box and Tom Bailey was alert and nipped in before the keeper could sweep up and lifted the ball in to the back of the net to give the 74 a lead

The Greens now on top, were hungry for more, some brave defending denied Tom Bailey and then Sam Hind from doing just that.

1874 sent on Shelton Payne for a home debut for Stuart Wellstead, he almost made an instant impact, cutting in from the right wing, Payne fizzed a perfect cross which missed the stretching Moran and Hind

With the game coming in to the final five minutes, Tom Bailey was close to bagging his first hatrick in for the club, he fired a speculative effort which landed just wide of the post with the keeper beaten
